NEW College Student represents region for National Citizen Service

James Butterfield, a year 12 student at NEW College, Pontefract, has been selected to represent Yorkshire and Humber for the National Citizen Service (NCS).
James, who studies Law, Business, IT and Photography at the sixth form college, beat over 90 other applicants to the leadership post and was invited this month to represent the Yorkshire and Humber region at the National Youth Board meeting in London, after impressing a panel of judges for the NCS.
The panel interviewed James after seeing all the good work he was involved in at the Woodcraft Folk, a two week camping social action project to highlight a stop bullying campaign. After admiring his efforts to lead the group, he was put on a leadership course to improve his skills and was invited to interview for the Yorkshire and Humber representative post
James said: “I would like to thank the staff and volunteers for putting me forward to the NCS Leaders course. I was so pleased to then be offered a place on the National Youth Board which means I am now a representative for all NCS graduates in Yorkshire and Humber. It has given me many opportunities including going to the House of Commons and meeting our local MPs.”
He added: “It made me realise that anything is possible if you have the willpower and determination to do it.”
