Following our continued success post-16, we have decided to offer the HNC/HND in Sports Science from September 2015. This fantastic opportunity has come about due to the ambition of our high performing sports department, combined with our very own students asking us to offer the course.


If you are interested in a career in sport such as teaching, coaching, performance analysis or sports psychology and are not quite ready to move away from home to study at university, then this qualification at NEW College, Pontefract could be the right choice for you.

Entry requirements

 Merit or Distinction(+) Btec Level 3 Sport/Health and Social Care/ Science (Subsidiary or Extended Diploma)

 C or above A Level PE/Biology/Health and Social Care

 Relevant work placement

 Extra-Curricular certificates



 £5995 per year

BUT, £500 towards PPD unit to pay for coaching quals

Progression and Career Options

 After two years completing the HND at NEW College you can:

 Top up with a third year at linked university (Leeds Trinity University, University of Huddersfield, Sheffield Hallam University) to get a BSc or a BA

Top up to a linked university, and then progress to a PGCE to become a Physical Education/Sports Teacher (Secondary or Post -16).

Finish the HND and progress into employment.

 The HND will allow you to progress into a career in the NHS, Sports Coaching, Teaching, Exercise referral, Performance Analysis and Athlete Development, Sports Development and Sports Psychology.
