In addition to the support offered to you by your Personal Tutor there are a range of other support services that we can offer to our students.
Counselling
A confidential counselling service is available for students. Counselling offers you the place and time to think and talk about specific problems and for us to think together about difficulties you are having. The College counselling team also offers guidance on relaxation techniques.
Students Offering Support (SOS)
This is a group of friendly students who are trained in listening skills. They are available to students who would like an informal chat, information or practical help with college or other problems. They provide a confidential service for all aspects of life including: decision-making, anxiety, stress, relationships, self-esteem and coping with crisis or loss. However big or small the problem, they are here to listen.
Connexions
The College has on site access to Connexions services so that students can speak to a specially trained Connexions advisor and gain access to services external to the College. Connexions is able to offer students aged 13-19 all the information and advice needed to make the decisions and choices in their life relating to careers, housing, travel, health and relationships.
Health and Well-Being
We have a number of support agencies that we work with and that can be accessed in college. These can give you free and confidential advice on a range of personal issues.
Weekly advice sessions give information on Sexually Transmitted Infections, Pregnancy testing, Chlamydia screening and advice on other sex related issues. Free condoms can be accessed through the College and the HPV Vaccine is currently available to those female students that wish to take advantage of this service.
In addition to this, we work alongside Health Trainers. These are available to you for personal support sessions on a range of health related issues such as stress management, weight control and techniques and support in giving up smoking.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
The College and staff have a general duty to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable students under 18 years of age who are suffering, or who are likely to suffer, significant harm. This duty also extends to vulnerable students over 18 years old. All staff have received training in recognising students who may be at risk and need support and the college works closely with other external agencies to support students who may experience difficulties. The College Designated Child Protection Officer is Craig Stimson who is the Assistant Principal Student Development and Achievement. Any enquiries regarding matters of child protection and safeguarding should be referred to him.
The College Child Protection Policy is updated annually and can be downloaded by clicking here.
