At NEW College Personal Tutors are at the heart of supporting students learning and act as an anchor throughout a student’s time in college.
To help students with the transition from Year 11 to NEW College the Personal Tutor will give each student one-to-one advice on their learning styles, work organisation and be on hand to support them as they settle in. Students will get an opportunity to meet with their Personal Tutor before they start NEW College by joining us for our Induction Day that takes place in the summer term. When they join us in September their Personal Tutor will meet with them so that they can get to know each other better.
Twice a year every student at NEW College is involved in a subject progress review known as ‘performance monitoring’. During a two week period a personal conversation takes place between students and a member of their subject teaching staff, this is an opportunity for us to focus purely on each individual student and put their learning and academic progress at the heart of what we do. After this process a review meeting will again take place with their Personal Tutor so that we can ensure that they are given clear direction in helping them achieve their best possible grades in all subjects. A report is written in this review meeting and a copy of this will be given directly to the students and also sent home for parents/guardians to read.
