Photography Students get a World Picture

Early December saw NEW College Photography students embark on the nation’s capital for the World Press Photo ’09 exhibition, at the South Bank Centre, in London. Only in the country for two weeks the exhibition gave the students opportunity to see some of the world’s most impressive photojournalism up close and personal.

Taking advantage of the time in London, the students also visited two other exhibitions. First was the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square – a location which lent its self perfectly to being snapped by the keen students.

Last port of call for the day was The Photographers Gallery for ‘Open See’ an exhibition by internationally renowned Magnum photographer Jim Goldberg, giving the students an insight into the world of asylum seekers across the globe.

Students also relished the opportunity to take photographs of the Thames and London’s diverse and busy street culture and came away from the day inspired and more worldly wise.
