Progress Tutors Supporting your Learning

At NEW College Progress Tutors are at the heart of supporting students learning and act as an anchor throughout a student’s time at college.

To help you with the transition from Year 11 to NEW College your Progress Tutor will give you one to one advice on learning styles, work organisation and be on hand to support you as you settle into college. You will get an opportunity to meet with your Progress Tutor before you start NEW College by joining us for our Induction Day that takes place in the summer term.  When you join us in September your Progress Tutor will meet with you so that you can get to know each other better.

You meet with your Progress Tutor once a week, alongside other members of your tutor group.  You can of course have other one to one conversations with them at times that are convenient to you.   Tutorial sessions held once a week give you the chance to meet students other than those doing the same subjects as you as well as to explore a range of social and career related issues.  In offering you this we hope that we can continue to help you grow as a person and prepare you for life after college, whether that be work, training or university.

Progress Monitoring

Both your Progress Tutors and subject teachers will review your progress on a monthly basis and together you will agree targets to ensure motivation, direction and a clear plan of action to keep you on track and improving.

Monthly progress monitoring will predominately focus on your achievement and your attendance in each of your subjects.

All this information will be recorded on computer (Firefly) and will be accessible to both parents and students daily and securely via the Internet.
