Party candidates set to face NEW College students in political debate

NEW College Pontefract will be hosting a question time debate on Friday 17th April, ahead of the general election in May.

Labour MP Yvette Cooper (Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford), Conservative candidate Beth Prescott and Wakefield District UKIP representative Steve Ashton will be among the panelists participating in the event at the outstanding sixth form college.

The debate will see students given the chance to quiz politicians from five of the major national parties. For some of the students, this will be just days before they vote in a general election for the first time.

Principal Pauline Hagen said: “This will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to become involved and be part of the process of what will be a very important general election this year. This question time style debate will help engage students in the democratic process. I am delighted and looking forward to having the parties on board here at the College.”
