New student president elected for Sept 2016

New College Pontefract have elected the next student president for September 2016. Current Student President Thomas Talbot officially handed over the reins to the new Student President Jack Varley last week.

The elected Student Executive President and Vice President sit on the College governing body and attend meetings. They also speak at college functions such as Open Evenings and Presentation Evening.

Jack said: “I am overjoyed to have been elected the new President here at New College. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who voted for and supported me. It was an honour to compete against the other candidates who all ran great campaigns.”

He added: “I set out to bring a voice to students. Before college, most of us felt we lacked a voice to really change things through primary and high school. But now this is an opportunity I plan to take with both hands, to speak for the people my age who are far too often left ignored, to face the issues we care about, and to make a positive impact for everyone.”

Tom said: “Firstly I would like to congratulate Jack on becoming President. All the candidates ran good and fair campaigns and all had very good ideas for college. I hope the new President Jack will take on some of the ideas from the other candidates and work with many of them in the new exec to help improve college life for all.”
