Gold Medals in Rio and Academic Medals in Pontefract

Students and staff at New College, Pontefract are celebrating another year of outstanding exam results. At A-Level, AS Level and in Applied General qualifications performance was exceptionally strong.

Already an established provider of academic excellence, this year students at the college achieved results giving an overall pass rate of over 99%, a high grade rate of 53% and an A* to C rate of 82% at A-Level.

Of the 32 A-Level subjects offered, 29 achieved a pass rate of 100%. Students following Applied General and BTEC qualifications achieved a 100% pass rate, with 92% achieving high grades.

New College’s Principal, Pauline Hagen, said: “Once again, it is students and staff who have provided these fantastic statistics, which reflect so well on the College. We are very proud of them and grateful to their parents who support us so well. These results not only represent the culmination of 2 years of hard work and commitment; they also enable our talented students to progress to the best universities and to fulfilling careers. The college is at the top of its game, with outstanding performance levels maintained year on year.

Many New College students excelled in subjects studied in combinations to support progression to particular career paths. Courtney Eardley achieved outstanding results on a mixed programme of A-Levels (Art, PE, Health and Social Care) combined with a BTEC qualification in children’s Play, Learning and Development (Merit).
Similarly, Olivia Kobli-Nash achieved Health and Social Care (A), Psychology (A), Sociology (A) and Diploma in Science (Distinction*), a combination which will enable her to progress down a professional route.

New College students studying applied and vocational subjects, again, achieved exceptional and well deserved results. Because of the nature of the course, these students have also developed a range of work relevant skills, such as research analysis, working with stress, time-management and organisation.
