BTEC Extended Certificate in Business

Business is an interesting and challenging course that aims to explore how different and real businesses are organised in order to achieve their goals. To be successful you must be prepared to accomplish much in a short time and you should be self-motivated and prepared to work hard. It is essential to research into business organisations in order to meet the demands of the coursework criteria. The focus of the course is vocational and should provide an insight into the workings of business – essential in today’s society as most people deal with business in some capacity. This course provides you with a great introduction to the world of business and helps you to prepare for it. (Equivalent to two GCSEs)

BTEC Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care

Health and Social Care is an interesting course that will help to prepare you to work in the Health, Social Care or Early Years sectors either now or in the future.  The course involves investigating the influences on an individual’s health and well-being and the range of services available to support them.  A BTEC in Health and Social Care offers a practical and relevant start to anyone interested in a career in the caring professions. (Equivalent to two GCSE’s).

BTEC Level 2 Certificate Creative Media Production

Equivalent to one GCSE, the course is 100% coursework assessed and covers two units. This course is practical and focus’s on a variety of different Media, including TV, film and radio. The first unit focuses on developing research skills and the second unit is an opportunity to create a media product of your choice.

BTEC Extended Certificate in ICT

The BTEC Extended Certificate in ICT is a recognised ICT qualification which focuses on the practical application of technology and is designed to stimulate your creativity and develop real-world, practical skills that will underpin your learning across a wide range of subjects.  It is a modern qualification for this dynamic subject and aims to give you the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare you for employment. (Equivalent to two GCSE’s).

GCSE English

The aim of the GCSE English course is to improve your understanding and use of language. The work centres on developing your knowledge of how to spell and punctuate accurately and how to communicate ideas in an effective manner in a range of different situations.

GCSE Science

The course is a one-year course designed specifically to meet the needs of post-16 students. The College follows the Foundation Level Syllabus which leads to GCSE grades C to G. You may wish to take this course in order to improve a current GCSE Science grade or to acquire a Biology/Science qualification required for an intended career or HE course.

GCSE Maths

GCSE Maths is a key qualification that is not only useful in everyday life, but which is required by many employers.  At NEW College you will join one of our two different pathways in GCSE Maths if you come to us with a grade D or lower.  Students arriving with grade D will enter our November resit groups and will sit all three modules in the Autumn term.  Results come out in January so students that still do not manage to improve to a C grade will get a further chnce to sit the exams in the summer.  Students arriving with grade e or below will join our one-year GCSE groups.  the modules are spread over the year and the pace is tailored to support those students that need reater support in order to build their confidence and develop core skills.

GCSE Photography

Photography aims to develop your visual thinking; the course also helps build a foundation for further study of any of the visual arts.  You will be introduced to a variety of experiences employing a range of media, processes and techniques.  The study of digital media will be a central feature of the course.
