BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care (Level 2)

Why should I study Health & Social Care?

The course involves investigating the range of services available and how they support an individual’s health and well-being. You will also develop the skills needed to communicate effectively and carry out a creative activity in a caring environment.

What will I study?

Individual Needs in Health and Social Care

Communication in Health and Social Care

Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health and Social Care

  • Different creative and therapeutic activities and their benefits
  • Legislation and regulations relevant to the implementation of creative and therapeutic activities
  • The role of professionals in supporting individuals who undertake creative and therapeutic

What are the entry requirements?

A minimum of 22 points achieved from your best 6 GCSE results. A* = 8 points, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5, d = 4, E = 3, F = 2, G = 1. (Half GCSEs = half points)

What skills do I need?

  • Have a caring and responsible attitude towards other people
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a variety of friendly, supportive teachers and will experience a range of learning opportunities: discussions, group work, student presentations, videos and individual research. Teachers will support you in preparing assignments for assessment.

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed by completing a series of activities which may include written assignments, presentations, plans to improve an individual’s health and preparing and presenting an appropriate creative activity.

What will this course prepare me for?

This qualification would enable you to apply for positions in health and caring services – eg care assistants in residential homes, nurseries, day centres, nursery assistants, parents’ helps, play group assistants etc.

Private Study

As an approximate guideline the BTEC Extended Certificate requires 2 hrs of additional study each week.
