What will I study?
You will study the following core units over the two years of the course. These units will include:
The Business Environment
Business Resources
Introduction to Marketing
Business Communication
Your award will be completed by studying additional units in accounting, marketing, human resources and international business themes.
What are the entry requirements?
Normal entry requirements. GCSE English grade C would be desirable.
What skills do I need?
In order to succeed in the BTEC Diploma/ Extended Diploma in Business you need to be punctual, well organised and have good attention to detail. It helps if you are creative and you are a good time manager. Additionally you need to be able to work hard and meet deadlines.
How will I be taught?
The BTEC Diploma/ Extended Diploma in Business is a course that is delivered across two years. You will be required to complete a coursework task for each unit approximately every two weeks, which could be made up of a written report, a display, a PowerPoint presentation, some role plays or a web based task. You will usually be working on three units at once, with different members of staff.
As part of our commitment to extended learning you will be expected to use the college Moodle virtual learning environment ( VLE) outside of the classroom environment.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through coursework. There are no exams. It is a 100% coursework based qualification.
What will this course prepare me for?
This course will give you an excellent knowledge of business allowing you to progress to a career in this area or even continue with further study at university.
Private study
You will be expected to do at least 6 hours private study a week. This work outside of the classroom will enable you to complete your coursework tasks and achieve your target grades.
What materials will I need to purchase?
Basic stationery is needed for the Diploma/ Extended Diploma. You will need to purchase pens, paper and a lever arch folder, along with dividers.

Additional Information
As part of the course you will be expected to take part in a variety of educational visits. These visits form an important aspect of the qualification, and experiences from these visits are regularly used to enable students to complete specific coursework tasks.
BTEC Business Studies is for you if:
you are looking for an excellent introduction to a real business career or further studies. If you like doing coursework and not taking exams this subject is perfect for you.
BTEC Business Studies is not for you if:
you are not prepared to work hard both in and outside of the lessons to produce imaginative coursework assignments.
