NEW College Aimhigher students had an exciting visit to Hull University for the day on Monday 9 February 2009 to give them an insight into university life. This was a collaborative event arranged to include Aimhigher students from Wakefield College. The day began with a presentation by Paul Wood, University Liaison Manager, about the range of courses on offer, given in a lecture theatre to allow our students the opportunity to gain first hand experience. Enthusiastic Hull student ambassadors gave their own views of being a first year and how to balance work, finance and a social life. Following this, a tour of the campus revealed excellent study facilities (8 floors in the Library), on-site sports facilities, a vibrant students union and even a night club! There were many opportunities to ask questions during this time. Lunch was provided for everyone in the student union, and the day ended with a tour around student accommodation at The Lawns. Our measure of success was the student comments at the end of the day:
‘I thought the whole day was enjoyable and everything I needed to know was included.’
‘‘I really enjoyed the visit. It was good to see both the uni and the Lawns and I thought it was a great experience.’
‘‘I liked the visit as it gave a lot of information about university life. I also liked being able to see where you can live.’
‘‘The trip was a good insight into every part of uni life. All in all it was a great day thanks very much.’
‘'Yes, I really liked the university and I am thinking of applying there. if I get the grades need to do Midwifery I would like to do the course there and I am thinking about attending one of the Open Days.'
