Recreational Sports
Squash at Pontefract Squash and Leisure club, Monday to Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with Pontefract International Squash Club. It is only a five minute walk from the College and boasts excellent squash facilities. Whether you want to play recreationally or officially join the club and play competitive squash is your choice.
5-a-side Football is on Tuesday during period 2 in the College Sports Hall with Graham Crossley. Football for fun! Get together with friends to play five-a-side once a week. If representing the College is not your thing, take advantage of this well organised recreational activity.
Snowboarding/Skiing at Xscape, on offer (exclusively to NEW College students) at a fantastic reduced skiing/snowboarding rate of £15 per lesson (on Wednesdays only). If students book four lessons and pass their Level 4 you will receive a free hour on the slopes. NEW College can get discounted sessions on a Wednesday evening at Sno Zones student night.
Annual Football Tournament– The Championship has a yearly theme with last years' being the World Cup. If you find that your five-a-side team is pretty good, why not enter a team into this very popular five-a-side indoor football competition. The 5-Towns Badminton Club is on a Tuesday evening 4.00pm-6.00pm in the College Sports Hall. OPen to students, staff and the community. Play for fun or compete against friends in either badminton or table tennis. Everyone welcome!
Weight Training or Fitness sessions in the NEW College Fitness Suite. Open 8.00am-9.00am, lunchtimes and 4.00pm-5.00pm every day, exclusive to NEW College students.

Competitive Sport
College sport gives students the choice to compete against other sixth form colleges on a Wednesday afternoon. Sports include Rugby League - 1st and 2nd team, Men's Football - 1st, 2nd and 3rd team and Women's Football, Basketball, Netball, Women's Rugby League and Hockey.
All of our sports team are relatively successful in their respective league structures. Depending how far teams go in the competitions, they could play almost anywhere in the country when competing in National Competitions. This is also an opportunity to team up with your past competitors from different schools to almost create a district team.
All the College teams train regularly during the week. With the Rugby teams entered into the Student Rugby League leagues and the Champion Colleges Cup. All the other teams compete in the British Colleges of Sport North East leagues, and the BCS Cup.
Look out for Varsity Annual Sports Competition v Wakefield College, where NEW College look to retain their title for the third successive year.
